Major linear chuck guards are mounted to the headstock of a lathe by four height-adjustable brackets that are supplied with the guard. The brackets can be moved left to right and forward or back along the guard’s frame to suit the headstock configuration of the lathe. The Major range is our installation engineers’ first choice of guarding for medium to large sized lathes such as the DSG, Swift and Lang lathes.

The Major lathe guard has a steel frame and is supplied with either 4mm-thick polycarbonate or 2+2mm laminated safety glass screens. An integral MIC 003 safety switch is fitted as standard and optional 15LLS7 – 5W low-voltage led lighting can be supplied with a fast connector and five metres of cable.

Minimal effort is required to slide the linear rail-mounted guard over the chuck and it is held with a positive click lock. The guard provides coverage of the rotating chuck as well as added protection from entanglement and ejection hazards. There are different models available to suit chucks with diameters of 600mm to 1500mm.

The interlock switch ensures that the safety guard must be in place before the machine can be operated. DC injection braking is optional, as is our dual-channel safety control panel as well as an additional e-stop or kick-stop. Our ‘safety panels’ contain safety relays and dual-power switching contactors. This system provides redundancy and fault tolerance, and it complies with current Standards regarding safety-related parts of control systems.
